4th of July Celebration
July 4, 2010
Happy Birthday America! On July 4th Bridgeland residents celebrated America’s birthday with a pool party, live concert, and fireworks show. To start off the festivities a pool party started at 1:00 pm. DJ, games, popsicles, giveaways, and concessions were just a few of the activities residents could enjoy pool side. To thank our troops Bridgeland Residents had the opportunity to write a special letter or color a picture to be sent over seas to the troops currently serving. At 6:00 pm the festivities moved to Festival Park in Lakeland Heights. The Hit-n-Run Band played all the favorites while guest enjoyed concessions, giveaways, and the opportunity to thank our troops. After 9:00 pm a great fireworks show light up the Bridgeland sky. Thank you to everyone that joined us to celebrate on the 4th!
Alessandra's Angels 2nd Annual Craft Show and Silent Auction was held on June 5th at Lakeland Activity Center. Despite the heat, shoppers and their families came out to visit our vendors, listen to great music provided by Rock n Robin DJ service, and bid on many silent auction items. Kids enjoyed a bouncy house, face painting and balloon art, while everyone cooled off with Snowie Snocones. The event was a big success with over $6000 raised! Held in remembrance of Alessandra Lopez, who lost her battle with melanoma last year at just 2 1/2 years old, the event's proceeds will be donated to pediatric melanoma research being conducted at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We would like to thank Bridgeland Council and General Growth Properties for the promotion of the event and for all of their help with this event. In addition, the success of our fundraising efforts was made possible by countless volunteer hours, commitment by our vendors, and donations from the community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event in any way-your support is appreciated!

Howl-O-Ween Fest, Brightly costumed canines paraded the streets of Bridgeland with their owners during Bridgeland’s recent Howl-O-Ween Fest, which was a tail-wagging success. The event drew nearly 2,000 visitors, who enjoyed fun in the sun before embarking on their traditional nighttime Halloween festivities. Headlining the family-and-Fido event was the 2009 Space City Disc Dog Championship, a three-day competition held in Bridgeland Friday through Sunday, October 30-November 1. The event attracted high-jumping pets from across the region, all vying for “top-dog” honors in a variety of trick categories. Performances by dancing dogs, a variety of fly ball groups and a dock-diving fun jump were other highlights. Also, nearly 75 people entered the costume contest and parade for dogs and their owners, with judges picking the best theme, most creative and best dog/owner costume pairing. The Happy Hounds Musical Freestyle Group performed to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and the Fort Bend Narcotics Task Force held several demonstrations to showcase their drug-hunting hounds. A pet photographer was on hand, as were mobile vets and groomers, rescue groups offering pet adoption, and pet products and services booths. For a spin on trick-or-treating, both kids and pups gathered yummy snacks — sweets for the kids and pet-safe treats for the pups. For a small donation, benefiting the SPCA, pet owners were photographed with their pooches at an on-site photo station. Proceeds from dock-diving fun jump registrations also benefited the SPCA.

School Bus Orientation
To assist with the first time students and those new to Bridgeland we held a School Bus Orientation. This Orientation was to teach everyone the rules of the bus along with how to properly get on and off the buss. Seeing the big yellow bus also helps get the children excited about school starting the following Monday. Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted with the event, without you we would not have had such a successful event.
Back to School Party
It is Back to School time and what better way to celebrate than with a Pool Party to meet and greet new class mates, parents to meet parents, and everyone to have an awesome time! LifeBridge Church donated free snow cones to all the participants and the Bridgeland Barracuda swim team provided a full concession stand. A DJ was present with Karaoke for the children to sing their favorite songs. Due to bad weather the pool area was closed with the participants we did have we quickly turned to plan B and executed all the games and activities outside of the pool area. We had a great time with a water balloon toss, the gum game, over under, hula hoop contest, and door prize giveaways. |
