Bridgeland’s first on-site school is no longer simply a number — the Cypress-Fairbanks board of trustees recently named the campus the Sue Gratehouse Pope Elementary in honor of a longtime district employee.
Pope retired from the district in 2004 after serving in various capacities for more than 18 years. Among her positions, she was a director of instruction at Cypress Creek High School, principal at Campbell Middle School and Cypress Falls High School and assistant superintendent for secondary school information.
“Pope served as a mentor and role model for numerous campus administrators and was a champion for all students,” the district reported on its website.
Construction on Sue Gratehouse Pope Elementary, the district’s 53 elementary school, began in Bridgeland this summer. The $14.76 million campus, which features a two-story component overlooking Cypress Lake, is expected to open in August 2013.
